Finding the best unlimited phone calls and broadband packages

Unlimited phone calls and broadband packages combine your internet and phone services into a single, hassle-free plan.

These deals often include ‘anytime calls’, letting you make unlimited calls to UK landlines and mobiles without worrying about extra charges. For added freedom, you can often customise plans to include international calls if you need them.

If you’re after a slightly cheaper phone and broadband deal, there may also be options to sign up a bundle that includes unlimited calls at weekends, or inclusive calls during the evenings. Peak time calls are charged on a pay as you go basis.

Who will benefit from broadband with anytime calls?

Although mobile phone plans now offer generous data and call allowances, a landline with unlimited calls could still be a great option for:

  • Families staying connected with friends and loved ones
  • Remote workers who need a reliable internet connection and unlimited calls
  • Seniors or anyone looking for hassle-free solutions

Genie's Top Tip

If you’ve found a phone a broadband deal that’s a perfect price, speed and contract length, but can’t see an option with calls bundled on the listing, click on the deal and work through the checkout process.

You may be given the option to add on a calls package, which you can view before you commit to pay.

How to choose the best broadband and phone bundles

Check your coverage

Broadband and phone options depend on your location. Start by using our postcode checker to discover what’s available in your area.

Get a package speed that suits you

It’s important to sign up to a broadband package with speeds that will suit your household size, and the tasks you regularly carry out day-to-day.

We recommend most homes should look for a fibre broadband deal with speeds of at least 35Mb. This would support basic web browsing and 1-3 devices streaming HD video or gaming.

However, if your address search shows you have access to full fibre deals, it usually won’t cost you much more to sign up to a deal with a speed of around 100Mb. This will suit around 1-5 people streaming HD video, gaming or video calling.

For more help to understand broadband speeds, you can visit our dedicated guides:

Read the terms and conditions

Inspect the terms and conditions of any unlimited calls and be confident they fit your needs. On Broadband Genie’s results tables, you can read more information by expanding the ‘Full Details’ section and clicking on the ‘Phone section’. However, we also recommend you read any agreements or contracts before you check out.

Make sure you understand:

  • The times of day that include free calls
  • Any limitations of the service
  • The price you are paying for your package, and if there are any flexible add-ons
  • Whether you need to pay extras such as set-up costs or line rental

Get more features

Can you get even more for your money by bundling in TV services? Many of the bigger name providers offer deals that include a broadband connection and a TV box with access to subscriptions for TV streaming services such as Netflix or Disney+.

If you're already paying for these separately, combining them under one contract could save you money in the long-run. However, if you aren’t completely confident you’d make use of these, they could be difficult and costly to cancel.

Work through the checkout process

At Broadband Genie, we make searching for broadband and phone deals easy with our dedicated searches, or with our filters.

However, there may be more options than we can feasible list. If you’ve spotted a great broadband deal with a provider, price, and download speed that suits you, working through the checkout process may reveal further features and add-ons, such as phone calls.

Broadband, home phone and mobile phone SIM bundles

Keen to get mobile phone calls and data included in the same contract as well as your home phone and broadband?

Virgin Media Volt bundles are perfect for this. These include an O2 SIM with a generous data allowance, unlimited minutes and text on top of inclusive weekend calls to UK landlines, Virgin Mobiles and 0870 numbers (evening and weekend calls or anytime calls can be included as an add-on).

Of course, these come with a higher monthly price tag, so you must be sure you’d make full use of the service before committing to a contract.

  • What is the Digital Voice switchover, and how will it affect you?

By January 2027, the UK will transition to Digital Voice services, replacing traditional copper phone lines. This change means your calls will run over the internet, offering better sound quality and enhanced features.

    What You Need to Know:

Compatibility: Most home phones will still work. However, you might need a compatible router or a free digital voice adapter, provided by your broadband provider.

Enhanced Features: Digital Voice includes benefits like call waiting, forwarding, and voicemail—all at no extra cost.

FAQs About Unlimited Phone Calls and Broadband Packages:

  • Is a broadband and phone bundle cheaper than using a mobile?

If you make only occasional calls, sticking to a mobile plan might save you money. However, if you frequently use a home phone, especially for long or international calls, a bundle with unlimited calls will likely be more cost-effective.

  • Is it cheaper to opt for a Pay As You Go rate?

Although it can seem like an extra monthly expense, most provider’s call charges per minute are pretty pricey! As an example, you’d only have to talk just over an hour per month to save money by signing up to BT’s Anytime Calls package. That’s not a lot of talk time.

Before you sign up to a new deal, keep a note of how long you've spent talking in a typical week. This should help with calculate whether it's worth spending more on a bundle.

  • Do unlimited phone bundles really mean unlimited?

Most ‘unlimited’ plans allow calls of up to 60 minutes before charges apply. Simply hang up and redial to avoid extra costs. Always check for potential setup fees or add-on charges before signing up.

  • Do I need to pay for line rental?

If you’re signing up to a broadband speed under 75Mb, this is likely a part-fibre deal that still uses a traditional BT phone line. In this instance, there may be additional line rental charges.

Full fibre broadband services don’t use BT Openreach lines, so you won’t have to pay a line rental fee.

  • Will my care alarm, smoke alarm or security alarm still work over a digital line?

If you have devices or services connected to your existing phone line, such as a care alarm, smoke or security alarm, get in touch with the manufacturer to check whether your device will work over a digital line. The good news is that most Lifeline alarms will work with full fibre broadband, but may need updating.

For more help with this topic, you can read our guide: ‘Will Lifeline systems work with full fibre broadband?’

  • What’s the cheapest broadband and phone package?

You can find the cheapest broadband and phone bundle available to your home by using our easy comparison tool. Enter your address to see the packages you can sign up.

However, it’s worth noting Broadband Genie doesn’t currently list social tariffs. These are special contracts available to customers who receive certain benefits such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit or Income Support. You may be able to receive cheaper broadband and phone packages if you’re eligible. For example, BT Home Essential Unlimited Fibre Essential Plan is priced at £15 a month for those on Universal Credit and comes with included line rental and unlimited UK calls.

For more information, visit our guide to social tariff broadband.

  • Will my phone number change when I get moved to a digital line?

Unfortunately, this might happen. It depends on the services offered by your service provider. You may need to get in touch to talk about number porting features. Work through a checkout carefully. Some providers ask you at this stage what your existing phone number is, whether you would want to keep it, or if you're happy to be issued with a new number.

Visit our guide to customer and technical support for direct telephone numbers for many providers.

How to switch to a broadband and phone package

Switching to a New Broadband and Phone Package Is Easy
If your current contract has ended, switching providers is straightforward. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Check Availability: Use our postcode checker to find packages available in your area.

  2. Compare Deals: Focus on the best combination of price, speed, and call options.

  3. Start the Switch: Most providers use the "One-Touch Switch" process, handling the transition for you. This ensures minimal disruption to your service. Your phone service should be taken care of as part of this move.

  4. Confirm Your Activation Date: Switching typically takes 14 days, but new processes could reduce this to as little as 24 hours.

Providing you’re out of contract with your existing broadband and phone provider, you will easily be able to switch. If you’re upgrading to a Virgin Media or full fibre deal, and you’ve never had this before, you may need to arrange an engineer visit.
