How to cancel Shell Energy broadband

Tips for leaving Shell Broadband after your TalkTalk migration

Shell Energy Broadband customers have now been migrated over to TalkTalk. In this guide, we'll explain the process of cancelling your new provider.

Shell Broadband Cancellation Tips

Shell Energy Broadband and Phone customers have now been automatically moved over to TalkTalk. You should assume that your contract agreement remains intact. This means that you'll still have to honour your minimum term, and leaving early will mean paying a termination charge.

But if your initial contract period is over, we recommend you switch to a better deal you've chosen yourself. After all, you're free to leave at any time! Here's how you do it:

Finding your Shell Energy Contract End Date

Shell Energy broadband deals had a contract length of 18 months. If you cancel early, you’ll be charged a fee based on the remaining months.

Once migrated over to TalkTalk, your contract terms should remain the same. Unless it can't be avoided, you're best off waiting until the contract has finished.

Keep an eye out for information regarding your migration, including any new customer support teams you might need to get in touch with.

Find a new broadband deal

Assuming you’re not cancelling because you no longer need broadband, you’ll want to have a new provider to switch to.

How to cancel Shell Energy broadband

If you’re out of contract: cancelling Shell Energy broadband for free

Switching between providers is easy. In most cases, your new provider will handle the process for you. The only exception to this might be if you're moving to Virgin Media or another provider that uses its own network, such as Gigaclear or Hyperoptic.

If you simply no longer need broadband, then previous Shell Energy broadband customers will now need to get in touch with TalkTalk customer service by calling 0345 172 0088. The Shell Broadband phone number is no longer in service.

Alternatively, you can use TalkTalk's Live Chat service.

Visit our TalkTalk customer service page for other contact details.

Cancelling Shell Energy if you’re still in contract

You can still follow the same steps as above if you're still within the minimum contract term. The only difference is that your final bill will include an early termination fee for the months remaining on the contract.

Cancelling Shell Energy if you’re moving home

If you cancel your old Shell Energy broadband contract before the end of its minimum term, you'll be charged a cancellation fee.

You'll need to give at least 14 days notice before you move to make sure your broadband and phone line will be connected on time. Note that TalkTalk charges a fee of £60 for moving services, but there's no additional fees if you then recontract.

You can arrange this using TalkTalk's 'Book My Move' service.

Cancelling Shell Energy due to a bereavement

If you've found an old Shell Energy bill from a friend or relation who has passed away, and you'd like to cancel this service, you'll need to get in contact with TalkTalk's bereavement team.

You can make arrangements calling 0345 172 0038.

Frequently asked questions about cancelling Shell Energy

Expert Summary

Shell Energy customers have recently been automatically migrated over to TalkTalk. Remaining contract lengths have been kept the same, but customers will have been moved to an equivalent package.

If you were out of contract with Shell Energy, we highly recommend taking this as an opportunity to check if you can get a better deal elsewhere.

To cancel your previous contract, you'll now need to get in touch with TalkTalk's cancellation department

  • What's Shell Energy Broadband's notification period?

If you’re not switching to another provider, or you want to switch to a provider on a different network, you're required to give 30 days' notice. Shell Energy customers will now have to get in touch with TalkTalk's cancellation team for any enquiries.

  • Can I keep my phone number when I cancel my Shell Energy contract?

Your phone number can be transferred to another service; speak to your new provider when signing up to make sure this is carried out.

  • Can I cancel if my Shell broadband is slow?

Shell Energy hadn't agreed to the voluntary broadband speed code of practice, so its customers didn't have a right to cancel due to slow speeds. However, TalkTalk is signed up to this code of conduct. With that in mind, even if you were initially a Shell Energy customer and have only recently been migrated over, if you're having issues with your broadband speed, we recommend opening a new line of conversation with your new supplier.
