Plusnet existing customer deals: should you renew or upgrade?
When a broadband deal is at the end of its minimum term, you're free to switch to a new broadband provider. We usually recommend this as the best option for most people as usually, new customers end up getting a far better deal.
It's likely you're paying more at the end than you were at the beginning, thanks to one or two price hikes during your contract. By switching to a new provider, not only do you stand a chance of tracking down a cheaper monthly deal, it's likely you'll be able to pick up a package with special offers reserved for new customers.
These are just a few of the deals you could get right now if you switch from Plusnet:
Does Plusnet offer broadband deals for existing customers?
Unfortunately, it doesn't advertise any packages specifically for current subscribers, but that doesn’t mean you should just let your service continue without negotiating a lower price.
When your contract is due to end, call Plusnet and ask what price you can get for renewing your current deal. It's also worth logging into the Member Centre to check if there are any offers and upgrades available to you.
Click on 'Offers and Upgrades' in your account and you'll be able to view a clear breakdown of the package and speed details you currently enjoy, as well as the contract end date. You'll also be able to view the price your package will be jumping to after your contract ends. This is likely to be higher.
So you can compare the price you're being quoted for your package after your contract ends, here are some of the deals it currently offers to new customers:
As an existing customer, it's very unlikely you'll be able to take advantage of any cashback or voucher offers given to new members. This is why we always recommend looking around for deals with other providers so that you can take advantage of these kinds of rewards.
Plusnet upgrade deals
There were some big changes to the Plusnet broadband service in 2023. If you were already a customer, you should have received an email from the provider letting you know of these tweaks.
Unlimited Fibre and Unlimited Fibre Extra products have been removed and replaced with a simpler 'Plusnet Fibre' product. This comes with an average download speed of 50Mb and an upload speed of 9Mb.
The good news is, this adjustment also means customers no longer need a phone line and don't have to pay line rental. This is because of the rollout of new SoGEA technology.
If 50Mb isn't fast enough for you, Plusnet Full Fibre may be an option. However, this will only be available in areas with a full fibre network service from Openreach. To find out the fastest package you can get from Plusnet, you can enter your postcode into our deals checker.

What is Openreach?
Openreach is the company that maintains the former British Telecom Network used for the majority of broadband and phone services. If a repair or installation is required, it’s Openreach who will send an engineer, not your provider.
More than 650 service providers using the Openreach network. That’s the majority of the UK’s broadband providers. This includes Sky, TalkTalk and BT. The exception to this is Virgin Media - it uses its own, separate cable network.
Frequently asked questions about Plusnet deals for existing customers
-
What happens to my Plusnet contract when I renew or upgrade?
You’ll be signing another contract with Plusnet when renewing or upgrading, so you are committing to pay for the service for that period of time. If you know you’ll have to cancel early for any reason, then you shouldn't sign up for a new contract. Early termination fees can get expensive.
When it comes to the broadband service, there will be no interruption to your connection if you're simply renewing your existing package. If upgrading, then there will be some downtime when switching to the new connection, but this should be minimal.
-
Can I upgrade my Plusnet broadband?
If you're already signed up to Plusnet Fibre, you'll only be able to upgrade to a faster speed if you have access to Openreach's full fibre network. You can get full fibre updates for your address using Openreach's Fibre Checker.
