How to find the best broadband deals in Swansea

You should have little problem finding the right home broadband package in Swansea. You can almost guarantee access to superfast broadband of at least 30Mb.

It's a fact that those based in Swansea West have access to slightly faster broadband deals than those living in East Swansea and Neath. However, for both areas, over half of residents can now sign up to ultrafast full fibre deals.

The best way to check the best deals available in your home is to make use of Broadband Genie’s deals checker. This way, you'll only be shown providers and packages you can be sure are available at your exact location. We'll also be sure to flag any added extras, such as gift vouchers or free-setup deals.

What are the fastest broadband deals in Swansea?

The fastest deals available to you will depend on which part of Swansea you live.

If you’re based in Neath and Swansea East, you might have slightly fewer options than those in West Swansea. However, over three quarters of homes will have access to very fast Gigabit speeds in some shape or form.

Homes in Swansea West are more likely to be able to sign up to a full fibre (FTTP) deal from a provider on the Openreach network (such as BT, TalkTalk, Vodafone and Sky Broadband). In the west, a fantastic 96% of premises will be able to sign up to a Gigabit deal with Virgin Media and download speed of 1Gb+.

Compared to the rest of Wales, Swansea has access to speedier broadband packages, mainly thanks to more readily available deals from Virgin Media.

  • What is Openreach?

Openreach is the company that maintains the former British Telecom Network used for the majority of broadband and phone services. If a repair or installation is required, it’s Openreach who will send an engineer, not your provider.

More than 650 service providers using the Openreach network. That’s the majority of the UK’s broadband providers. This includes Sky, TalkTalk and BT. The exception to this is Virgin Media - it uses its own, separate cable network.

  • What’s the difference between ‘fibre’ and ‘full-fibre’ broadband?

Full Fibre broadband is also known as ‘Fibre To The Premises’, ‘Fibre To The Home’. This is often shortened to FTTP or FTTH. They’re all the same thing!

Instead of copper telephone wire making up the final part of the journey from that green cabinet on the street, fibre optic cables are installed right up to your home.

It’s amazing the difference in speed this small data journey can have. With full-fibre broadband you can expect to receive speeds of 1Gb+.

The downside is full-fibre is only available to a small percentage of homes in the UK, and it’s taking a good while to get everyone up to speed.

Who’s the best internet provider in Swansea?

The best internet provider for you will depend on a couple of factors: how you use your home internet and which networks you have access to at your postcode.

Our comparison tool is free and simple to use. Don’t forget to use the filters for a more helpful search and ask yourself these basic questions:

  • How much are you willing to spend per month?
  • How fast does your internet connection need to be?
  • Do you want to include TV services or phone calls?
  • Can you commit to a long contract length, or do you need something more flexible?

For more help with this, you can read our guide to broadband speeds.

Comparing mobile broadband in Swansea

Swansea residents enjoy a good level of access to 4G or 5G mobile internet services from all four of the network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone.

If you live in a flat, or if you’re in rented accommodation and can’t get permission for an engineer visit from your landlord, Three’s 4G or 5G home broadband deals could be a good option. Unlike fixed home broadband deals, there’s no need for any fibre cables or access to a phone line. Instead, you’ll use a mobile network in a similar way as you get online using your smartphone. You’ll need to position your router on a windowsill for best results, but Three Hubs are 'plug and play' - a quick and flexible way to get yourself kitted up with a high-speed broadband service.

Before buying any mobile broadband package, always make sure there’s good coverage in your area. You can read our guide to mobile broadband coverage for more information, or access the official network coverage tools by clicking the logos below:
